This was the recurring theme as the Rotary Club of Guelph Trillium heard from seven recipients of funding. A total of 23 organizations have received funding from the club, and these were the first organizations to present to the club.
First to speak was The Nightingale Centre, an organization that provides support to grieving families. The funds are being used to support young adults who have lost a parent or sibling and through group conversations over dinner, they connect and realize they are not alone in their grief.
Bringing people together was also a focus of the Alzheimer Society with their Minds in Motion weekly program for those with Alzheimers and their caregivers. As their slogan for the program says “No one walks alone.”
The Guelph Guild of Storytellers helps connect families and seniors alike with their storytelling, often held at the Enabling Gardens, another recipient of funding which enabled them to purchase a sound system tp facilitate their gardening instructors. Providing adaptive tools to the staff at Hopewell Support Services, helps them to better able support their clients who are developmentally challenged.
Children were also the beneficiaries of the funding, with a grant going to the Children’s Reading Room to purchase books for children by indigenous authors about the indigenous culture and the Children’s Foundation and their Keep Kids Fed at Home (formerly Food 4 Kids) received funding to purchase food which is delivered through the school system to children at risk of going hungry over the weekends.
It is always gratifying to hear how the funds raised through Tour de Guelph and Ribfest, the club’s two big fundraisers, are utilized in the community. Thank you to you for helping us make an impact.
