It's a different fan base these days. Yes, you still have your 2,500 diehards and season ticket holders, but lots of people take the family once or twice a year, lots of groups, companies and organizations. And that's a good thing.

So the Storm will pick second overall in the draft, as determined by last night's lottery. They have only ever picked second overall once in team history, in 2017 when they took Tag Bertuzzi. Expect the team to take one of a select group of forwards in the draft. If you feel like Googling, check out the likes of Charlie Murata, Jaakko Wycisk, Camryn Warren and Brock Chitaroni.

Five priorities for the Guelph Storm this off-season: - convince Lev Katzin to stay - hope Jack Murtagh, (a ninth-round selection by Guelph in 2023) comes here. - get an 18 year old NHL draft pick in the import draft - draft a player in the top four of the OHL draft who will be a contributing factor by year two - trade a 17 year old defenceman for a forward who can contribute offensively immediately

Camryn Warren and Charlie Murata, two high-scoring forwards from Toronto, appear to the the top two rated players in the upcoming OHL draft. Murata a little bigger. Next week's OHL Cup should help determine who the top pick will be.

Monday musings: Not that this is even a rumour at this point, but if the Storm was ever able to convince this former 5th round pick to report next season it would be a HUGE get. Perhaps his draft status this summer could be of influence?

Tony, do the Storm have interest in signing Jake Brown or does Jake have any interest in signing here? Small F but seems to be a goal scorer. Thought he looked good at camp last spring.

Reminder: there is a weighted draft lottery for the first overall pick involving the OHL's four non-playoff team. Last place overall has 40% chance, second last 30%, third last 20% and fourth last 10%. (*editor's note: doesn't matter where you pick if you don't pick the right guy)

Even with London sitting out some big guns, Guelph is no match in the long run for a team like that right now. London has 13 NHL draft picks on its roster. Zero regulars from last year's draft and only four from the year before. It's an older, bigger, better team than anyone in the OHL. Hard to see anyone beating them until they get to the Memorial Cup. Maybe.

Hi Tony Been a Storm season ticket holder for over 30 years and it's frustrating watching the team this year. Just seems there is no progression. Next year what is your opinion about revamping the D? I would keep Frossard, Beauchene,Jenkin,& Skvortsov and possibly Spada as a 7th. I would fill the other spots with and OA or import. Thoughts?

One bad period last night. Thought Guelph played pretty well for the most part. But when the other team scores three power play goals and yours goes 1/7, it's tough to win on the road.

Word on this year's OHL draft, where the Guelph Storm should pick in the top 4: Six or seven very high calibre guys with no clear-cut number one among the top three or four. After that not that deep of a draft.

Right now the only in-house candidates for overagers next year are Charlie Paquette (likely) and Justin Bottineau (unlikely). Normally a team would like an OA defenceman, but the entire Storm defence is eligible to return. Perhaps trade from strength to fill a need?

Shoutout to Quinn Beauchesne (D) on his three-point afternoon on Sunday against the Kitchener Rangers. Despite the losing effort, Beauchesne assisted on all three Storm goals!

Rod Gilbert, the last Guelph player to win the OHL's Red Tilson Trophy for outstanding player, in 1961. Might have gone with Jeff O'Neill as a guess, but his two best seasons were trumped by David Ling and Jamie Allison's huge seasons.
